Disco globes are back, but in my world, they never left. I own two full-sized mirrored balls, and a friend gave me a smaller one as a gift which I use for decoration year-round. The spinning ball of mirrored mosaic reflects light making it dance. The globe projects happy sparks all around creating a celebration on every surface within its realm. When each new year rings in, you can see this spectacular decoration helping to make venues more festive. When accompanied by music and colored light sources, a party is born.

Several factors affect the projection of each tiny mirror. If you look closely at the globe, you will find that rarely are any of the mirrored pieces just alike. Each has its own shape and size. Even if they are similar to one another, they are not exact. Not only that but each piece is uniquely set. They may follow a general pattern, but the tiny mirrors do not lie totally flat, nor are they placed uniformly. Some pieces are not perfectly mirrored. They might have a smudge, a mark, a crack, or even a break. Yet when the light hits them, the mirrors don’t seem to mind their imperfections, they just revel in the radiance by reflecting it into where there is darkness. And each mirror has its own projected mark that changes as the globe spins. The darker it is where the reflection lands, the brighter the reflection looks.

This earthen globe we all cohabitate on carries not mirrors, but individuals who reflect God’s light. You see, on the disco globe, no mirror makes a splash of light on its own. It is only when the light hits it that it shines. The mirror does what it was created to do – it reflects what it receives. It brings light where there was darkness in a way that sparks joy in the soul.

The apostle Paul tells us, “For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord… For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ…to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us”. 2 Corinthians 4:5-7

How marvelous is this information! The pressure to perform is off of us! All we have to do is seek the light of the glory of God through Christ and He will shine His glory out from us no matter what our shape, size, color, and blemishes!

God created us all differently. We each reflect our individual colors and patterns of light based on how we were made, and the angles and the intensity with which the light strikes us. But the result is the same. Light where it was dark. Joy where there was despair. Purpose where there was none to be found.

One day, those who followed Jesus, the light of life, while spinning on this earth-globe, will gather around His throne in heaven. There, God has in store for us the biggest party of all time! In the very presence of the light, we will dance and celebrate with Him for eternity.
