Over 77% of youth ministries and urban mentoring programs in the U.S. are led by part-time or volunteer leaders.

Let that sink in.

These are the people showing up early, staying late, leading Bible studies after working full-time jobs, mentoring kids on weekends, and walking with families through real-life struggles—not because they’re paid to, but because they believe in the God-given potential of the next generation. And yet, they often serve with limited resources, little training, and minimal support.

You may be thinking, “Is that number really that high?”

While no single study confirms this exact percentage, it’s widely acknowledged in the field. For example, Ministry Architects notes that many churches have just one full-time youth staff member for every 50 young people, relying heavily on volunteers to sustain youth ministry. Similarly, urban mentoring programs often operate on tight budgets while serving communities with the greatest needs—and the fewest supports.

These leaders carry a heavy load. And far too often, they carry it alone.

That’s why Resurgence Leadership Foundation (RLF) exists.

We are deeply committed to equipping and elevating these leaders—those who serve quietly, consistently, and sacrificially. We build leadership pipelines that transform individuals, families, and communities, starting at the places where few others are looking.

We form young people through intentional mentoring.
We develop catalytic leaders through rigorous training.
We mobilize communities to lead with dignity, respect, care, and Christ-like conviction.

Our approach is rooted in biblical wisdom and proven leadership models:

  • CoorPro – equipping chapter coordinators to lead mentoring programs with excellence
  • Barnabas Fellows – developing relational, catalytic young adults who walk alongside others
  • Virtuous Mentoring Model – partnering with families to form young leaders through Christ-centered, character-shaping relationships

The leaders we serve may be part-time or volunteer, but their impact is full-time and eternal.

So next time you see someone faithfully investing in young people, thank them.
And then thank God that movements like RLF are walking with them.

Praise God—we see them, and we’re with them.

Let’s build a just society—one virtuous leader at a time.
