SUMMARY:Better Man Academy - Conyers
DESCRIPTION:If you are a baseball fan\, this was an exciting week as this season had its official kickoff. For my hometown heroes\, the Atlanta Braves\, they had their first home game\, and I was happy to be able to be there with friends. There was excitement in the air as fans flocked to the baseball park area to soak in the celebratory atmosphere. Honestly\, I was a little surprised at the number of people there. The stadium was full! This surprised me because my beloved team had a less-than-stellar season last year. As a matter of fact\, some would go so far as to say that we “stunk”. There were several factors contributing to the unfavorable odor of the team’s performance. Injuries. At any given time during the season\, there were 8-10 starting players (out of 9 field positions!) out. With so many out convalescing\, it made it tough for the players who were fielding the team to get any sort of camaraderie or flow going. You have to spend time with your teammates in order to trust them\, anticipate their moves and your reaction\, and to cover them when they are struggling. Despite the talent these individuals possessed\, they could not pull together to achieve success. Last year\, the team won 10 fewer games than they lost and did not make the playoffs for the first time in 8 years. We spoiled Braves fans are not used to this kind of defeat. The stadium seats showed it. At the end of the 2025 season\, for each game\, there were more tickets that went unused than people in the seats. Criticism abounded. So much for die-hard fans. Loyalty wanes. Then\, spring training 2026 comes for all baseball teams. All players/teams go to a cushy warm place in late winter/ early spring to get ready for the upcoming season. They practice\, work out\, and play “scrimmage” games. The Braves look good. Really\, really good. And almost every starting player is back from their injury recovery. So\, the fans get hopeful that we are leaving our last season and its issues behind. Opening night was something to behold! Excited fans and players optimistically look at the coming year. Fans are engaged. They are present. They are rowdy. They believe in the team for victory. Loyalty waxes. This week\, we are embarking on Holy Week\, a remembrance and celebration of the foundation of the Christian faith. Jesus the Christ (Messiah) conquered sin on the cross and conquered death by raising Himself to life. This week\, approximately 2000 years ago\, Jesus entered Jerusalem. As He did\, the people who had: followed Him\, heard His message\, seen the miracles He brought about\, and put their faith in Him\, wildly cheered and paid homage as their King passed by. Loyalty waxes. Then the leaders of the people who felt threatened by Jesus\, managed to sway the Jesus-fans. They convinced the people that Jesus wasn’t who He claimed to be. Some of the very crowd who had hailed Jesus\, cursed Him and yelled for His crucifixion. Loyalty wanes.   Jesus could have stopped it. All of it. Silenced the people. Condemned the leaders. Freed Himself from the trial\, and the cross\, and He could have taken over as King before their very eyes. Had Jesus aimed for His own comfort and a quick return to His rightful place as Master of All\, we would be forever condemned by our sins. Our sins would have separated us from God forever. So\, He endured the loose loyalty of His followers. He endured the unfair trial. He endured the torture of what came before the cross. He endured the grueling\, horrific shame and process of the cross. He endured the weight of every sin I have\, or will\, commit. He endured the weight of your sin. And every other person who has come or is yet to come. When we accept this unfathomable gift He gave us – His payment for our sins\, we live forever in paradise with Him. Why did He do this for us despite our constant sin and disloyalty to Him? Because He loves us more than words could ever say. Instead of just telling us of His love\, He showed us. He never swayed in HIS loyalty to US. “For I the LORD do not change; therefore you\, O children of Jacob\, are not consumed.” – Malachi 3:6 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above\, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” – James 1:17   In the age when our love and loyalties ebb and flow\, and come and go\, praise Jesus for the steadfastness of His love for us!
